Even though the beginning of Alifushi School is unknown, it can be traced back to 1941 approximately. Then it was called Madharusa where Quran and Islamic studies were taught. In 1943, the school was rebuilt and more subjects such as Thajveed, Mathematics and Dhivehi Language were introduced. Later in 1960, the school building was upgraded and named ‘Maktabunnoor.’ For the first time, the school was registered under the Ministry of Education on 2nd June 1969 as ‘Madurasathunnoor.’. In 1989 two expatriate teachers were appointed by the parents and with their assistance school was able to introduce Grade 7 by the year 1992.
In 1992, the Government started funding the school and the following year, the first trained Head Master Mr. Moosa Faiz was appointed. The Secondary Level was introduced in 2000 and in 2002 the first batch appeared for 0’ level examinations. The Higher Secondary Level with Business Stream was inaugurated in 2004. Since then, the school has been improving its performance in academic as well as extra - curricular activities.
The educational system of this school is within the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education as the other schools. The Ministry of Education has set out its mission for the last 75 years to literate students throughout the country. And this school is one such catalyst to proceed with this mission. Alifushi School has undergone many hardships to bring appreciable developments in educating its children with discipline and punctuality.
